Description
The main goal of this subject is to provide a framework for negotiating in English. Students will learn how to prepare thoroughly, and set initial goals for mediation and discussion. Detailed offers, counter offers and conflict resolution will be addressed and practiced using task-based co-operative learning

  • Class 3. Planning a meeting. Providing reasons and explanations. Unit 1. VQ2.
  • Class 4. Prioritising objectives. Devising agendas Setting up a meeting. Unit 2. VQ 3.
  • Class 5. The meeting. Methodology and context. Unit 3.VQ4.
  • Class 6. Writing assessment 1. Meeting and agenda e-mail.
  • Class 7. Making a proposal. Clarifying information, Responding to a proposal. Unit 4. VQ5.
  • Class 8. Counter proposals. Expressing possibility /impossibility. Unit 4. VQ6.
  • Class 9. Clarifying positions. Introducing new ideas and suggesting solutions. Unit 5. VQ7.
  • Class 10. Task-based assessment 1. Counter proposal. VQ8.
  • Class 11. Handling conflict, expressing agreement and disagreement. Unit 6. VQ9. 
  • Class 12. Settling matters. Making and obtaining concessions. Unit 6.VQ9.
  • Class 13. Finalising agreements. Conveying commitment, setting deadlines. Unit 7. VQ10.
  • Class 14. Final task-based assessment. The negotiation.

Homework
Students will be expected to study a minimum of fifteen self-selected words of vocabulary per week using the techniques discussed in class, which will be tested weekly. Regular review of lessons is strongly advised.
